06-09-13 Deacon Jason Kanz – Summer of Love Week 2 – Love is Patient
June 7th, 2013
Dear Cedarcreeker,
Some Cedarcreek News:

- A number of Edge college students have stayed in Eau Claire for the summer. Pastor Rob has designed a format and schedule to help these students grow in Christ. On Friday nights, various pastors around the region will teach encouraging and challenging messages for the Scriptures. There will be various small groups, activities, social outings and outreaches. Pray that growth and unity would develop for the fall.
- Last night we had the kick-off meeting for Financial Peace University. There were 56 people in attendance of which 10 were not from Cedarcreek. There was an excitement and anticipation of the good that will come from this class.
- I have been dealing with trying to delineate our eastern property line with our neighbors. There have been encroaching activities and disposal of yard wastes unto our property. We hired a surveyor to determine the correct line. We are now working out the best solution to delineate the line with the neighbors. It looks like we will need to organize a crew this summer to build 900 feet of cedar rail fencing, brushing and tree trimming.
This Sunday June 9th at 10 am, Jason Kanz will be continuing our summer series on love and I Corinthians 13. The topic is one all of us need – “Love is patient”. Please join us for a good time of worship.
This Sunday after the service (Noon) is our first church wide picnic at Altoona Beach County Park. There will be a grill out, baptisms, volleyball, swimming for the hearty (brrr!) and good conversation. It is a great time to mix with folks in church that you don’t normally get to talk too. Like always bring a dish to pass and meat to grill.

Editor’s note: the first minute is really rough but it gets better
May 31st, 2013

Each summer for the past number of years, we have done a summer long series focusing on a book or topic. This summer we will focus on the topic of “love”. The series is called “Summer of Love” a play on the year 1969 when the sexual revolution was raging. We will be centering in on one of the most significant themes in the Bible – what genuine love is as laid out in I Corinthians 13. I hope that you can join us this Sunday June 2nd at 10am as Mike Downie kicks off the series by
looking at how love is the most excellent way. Henry Drummond in his classic little books The Greatest Thing in the World wrote:
“The masterpieces of Christianity are agreed about it. Peter says, ‘Above all things have fervent love among yourselves.’ Above all things! And John goes farther, ‘God is love.’ You remember the profound remark which Paul makes, ‘Love is the fulfilling of the law.’ Did you ever think what he meant by that? In those days men were working for their passage to heaven by keeping the Ten Commandments, and the hundred and ten other commandments which they had manufactured out of them. Christ came and said, ‘I will show you a more simple way. If you do one thing, you will do these hundred and ten tings without ever thinking about them. If you love, you will unconsciously fulfill the whole law.”
Remember if you miss a Sunday this summer, the teaching can be streamed from our website.

It’s my money God! Why should I care? – 05.26.2013

05-26-13 Pastor Dave Lennander – You should want to manage money well
May 24th, 2013
Yeah! The summer season is going to start with the Memorial Day weekend. It has been a long time in coming! Important! Note! – This Sunday May 26th, we start our summer hours with just one service at 10 am. I like the change of pace to the summer. It is fun for the church to all meet together. There is a relaxed and casual atmosphere in the service over the summer period that I believe is a good break from the rest of the year. We don’t want to stop learning and growing as Christians but we can approach things from a different pace.
This weekend, I will finish a two week series on money. This summer we are offering the Financial Peace University. I would like to see many from Cedarcreek take this opportunity and attend. Financial faithfulness is a key topic in the Word of God. Last week I talked about why God wants us to manage our finances well. Money is a heart issue and God is after our hearts. In Deuteronomy 8, we saw how God loves to bless us materially and financially. But at the same time He warned us that when finances and things multiply there is a danger in becoming proud and forgetting God.
This week, I will share on why you should want to manage your finances well. It is in your best interests to do so. God’s word lays out practical guidance on the use of money God’s way. There is a blessing promised to those who follow doing things His way. There are also consequences for ignoring His instruction. I will explore some of the consequences for not managing money Gods way as a motivation to step up and make changes in the way with handle money.
